Web Content ManagementFederal Railroad Administration Example of Reorganized Content Prior to my arrival, this particular site was known as a difficult place to navigate. Materials were uploaded without architecture or naming conventions for documents to facilitate search engines. My task was to bring some order to existing files so that the public could more easily find what they were searching for. In this instance, the simplest path was to separate the reports into three types and organize reports within each part. Sample of Reports Managed and Published This page shows a sample of the technical summary reports I managed, tracked and reported on from the time they were submitted for review and approval to conversion for ADA compliance for upload to the Federal Railroad Administration's web site. Workshop Materials Uploaded Making Information Accessible The challenge here was to upload a great number of presentations with multimedia elements included onto a single source page for public access while maintaining a professional appearance. Sample PowerPoint Presentation Converted to PDF A sample PowerPoint ™ presentation that I was responsible for developing templates for, as well as assuring style consistency of font and layout, look and feel and placement for graphics. Authors were given a great deal of flexibility within these parameters. One customer asked whether there was a user-friendly way I could upload 10 research presentations coupled with an equal number of test videos to a single page on their web site. This is the solution we arrived at. Thumbnails of the presentations were linked to the PDF slide shows and the film icons were linked to the associated video clips. At the bottom of this page is a green diagram, which is an image map linked to each part of this program manager's web site. An attempt was made on all pages to make information available within 3 or fewer mouse clicks. |
